Press Release – VCOPS – Governor’s Budget Ammendment

Today the General Assembly passed the Governors Budget Amendment that would not allow localities to start requiring current employees to pay up to 5% of their retirement contribution to VRS. The Vote was unanimous in the Senate, but the 1st vote in the House was 83-Y 13-N to pass and the final vote was 89-Y 7-N click here to see who voted against it … Governor’s Budget Amendment
Governor Amends State Budget to Help Local Employees

This morning Governor McDonnell amended the state budget to delete language to allow localities to require local employees to pay up to 5% of the employee share of VRS. Back in the late 80’s all localities began to pay the employee share of VRS. Prior to then all local employees paid 5% of their retirement contributions. READ MORE

Representative Steny H. Hoyer, Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives has stated that H.R. 413, the “Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act,” would be “among the first” bills considered on the House floor following the Easter recess.
